This isn’t over. Now is the time to act.
What is the $95B Budget Plan?
This $95 billion budget plan is intended to fund the Iran war and expand military cooperation with Israel. Republicans also tied the SAVE act to it, with a planned $10 billion to implement strict voting regulations aligned with President Trump’s goals.
This is only a budget framework put forth as the House version of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which would allow House Republicans, if approved by the Senate, to draft detailed legislation later in the summer.
According to the NY Times1, Representative Mike Rogers of Alabama, the chairman of the Armed Services Committee said, “No matter how you feel about the current events, these funds are necessary to ensure our fighting forces remain ready, our troops are paid and our nation is safe.”
Does This Budget Plan Merge the US Military With Israel?
Not exactly; this does not put any of the US military under Israel’s command. It does, however, make it more difficult for the US to withdraw support from Israel, during a time of growing concern about Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Section 219 of this budget plan requires cooperation with Israel on joint research, testing, weapons development, technology integration and industrial cooperation. According to News Nation, Thomas Massie, R-Ky., called the provision “a betrayal of our sovereignty” on social media.
They Tied the SAVE Act to the Budget Plan
The SAVE Act is allegedly proposed to make sure only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections. That is already the law, and it is already being enforced. What the SAVE Act would do is add a new layer of documentation requirements on top of a verification system that is already in place and working.
Things to know about the SAVE Act according to BipartisanPolicy.org:
- Many eligible citizens don’t have access to documentary proof of citizenship.
- There are better ways to verify citizenship that put the responsibility on government, not voters.
- The SAVE America Act could have unintended consequences for election officials and election administration.
- The SAVE America Act’s photo ID requirements are more restrictive than any state law currently in place.

This Budget Proposal Passed the House But It’s Not a Done Deal
This budget proposal to fund the Iran war and the SAVE Act was passed by House Republicans July 22, 2026, but don’t panic yet; it still has to get through Senate.
Publications such as PBS call it a “long shot effort”2. It’s likely that this will die in the Senate, but do not think that means we can get away with doing nothing.
It’s More Important to Use Your Voice Now Than Ever
This is yet another chess move by the GOP towards authoritarianism. We cannot be complacent, no matter how confident we are in its failure in the Senate.
Every proposal such as this one is a testing of the waters, to see who they can get to align with their goals, and to see how far they can push things.
We have to let them know we don’t want and will not allow this.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to oppose the Budget Reconciliation 3.0 legislation. This partisan spending package funds an illegal war and voter suppression while doing nothing to improve the lives of Americans.

Calling Your Representative is One of the Most Effective Tools You Have Right Now
5 Calls explains Why Calling Works:
- Emails have to be sorted.
- Written letters take time to arrive and get processed.
- Staffers tally phone calls right away and provide tally records to your representatives.
“Your congressperson gets regular call tally reports, letting them know how strongly their constituents feel about an issue.”
Keep an Eye Out For Local Protests & Political Events
Facebook events and other regional web sites or event tracking sites will have information about protests in your area.
Out of an abundance of caution, I’d recommend avoiding downloading any apps that say they will keep you updated on protests. As someone who works around cybersecurity, I have seen a number of these popping up and just get a bad feeling about some of them. Also, do not give your information to web sites if it’s unnecessary. Stay savvy, friends.
Grow Your Community
Share These Methods With Your Network – Online and In Person
Now more than ever, we have to be talking with each other and encouraging each other.
Reaching out to your local community and making sure they’re informed of what’s going on will help. Encourage them to make calls to their representatives and Senator as well. Building community and talking with each other is such an absolutely crucial part of fighting fascism.
